Data for Social Economy

How might we help purpose-driven organisations harness the right data science to increase the impact of their work? It’s a job for the Datavysts.
Using data to drive our social economy
Europe’s rich diversity of social enterprises, charities and public sector organisations are becoming increasingly reliant on information and technology to meet the needs of the complex communities they serve.
Our work will address challenges for social innovators and, collaborating closely with them, we’ll develop and test methods and solutions that work in real-world settings.
What we’ll be working on…
Developing a data for social economy investment model
Without a clear, ethical commercial structure in place, accessing and sharing data is strewn with pitfalls and barriers. To develop a model fit for purpose — and which meets EU regulations — we need to establish a deep understanding of current data evaluation practices among social innovators, then develop data evaluation methods and pilot a robust data-sharing process.
Equipping the public sector to promote social innovation through AI
The public sector has a pivotal role in the social innovation ecosystem. We’d like to see that role enhanced, empowered and made more efficient by technology.
So, we’ll be exploring how teams and individuals can use artificial intelligence to enhance new ways of meeting social needs.
One of the results we’re aiming to produce is a guideline to help public-service providers navigate the opportunities and challenges of using AI to foster more impactful social innovation.
To aid their research and development, the fellows will be working hands-on with two pioneering organisations tackling societal challenges, while collaborating and cross-pollinating with Datavysts working on other projects.
We can only see a short distance ahead, but we can see plenty there that needs to be done.
