Foundations of AI for Common Good

Our foundation work seeks to redefine the role of data science and artificial intelligence in society, so it serves more purposeful outcomes for people and our planet.
What is ‘data science & AI for common good’?
How do we know it will do good? And in what ways can it drive social innovation? The Datavysts’ foundation work seeks to answer these questions.
Without meaningful design, emerging technologies can disrupt our communities and create profound social, environmental and political impact. It’s our job to present a different picture.
We’ll be co-creating a robust ethical framework of models, best practices and tools demonstrating what data science and AI could really mean for society, from the grassroots up, if applied purposefully and responsibly.
What we’ll be working on…
Embedding data science and AI into social innovation practice
This work is about understanding how social innovators can harness the power of cutting-edge technology for maximum positive impact.
It will be centred on creating and testing a theory of transformative change based on the needs, challenges and enablers of social innovators. Then, undergoing a co-creational process with key stakeholders, we’ll co-produce guidance and a toolkit to enable policymakers, social entrepreneurs, and organisations to implement AI-driven social innovation more effectively.
Developing an AI tool for social innovation best practice
Ultimately the goal is to help social innovators across sectors scale up successful practices and enhance the positive impact they have.
Co-creating the future of data science and AI for good: social innovation, careers, and collective intelligence
How can we ensure technology empowers genuine bottom-up social innovation? To help shape the future of AI for common good, we’ll develop a research roadmap, define how social innovation practices can shape technological development, and demonstrate how to build industry and a paid workforce around it.
