In my own words…

We need to recognise and embrace the value of social innovation in how we design, use and share the results of data science and AI algorithms. To rethink how we manage these incredible practices and the data behind them, and empower citizens, social innovators and civil society to use these practices for good.

We should also embrace social innovation methodologies in data science practices, for instance making them accessible, allowing a plurality of stakeholders to take part, breaking the barriers to data exploitation, understanding collection and sharing, and making data interpretation participatory.

I hope the Datavysts network shows that a different way of dealing with AI and data science is possible — and that when it’s done in the proper way, it can bring great societal benefits.
