Greet Cardon

Ghent University
Professor and head of Movement and Sport Sciences

Greet is a highly cited researcher specialising in physical activity, health promotion and healthy ageing. Above being a prolific speaker and publisher in this field, she leads a research group dedicated to innovating active ageing solutions that are as valuable to older people as they are to the communities they belong to.

As part of her Datavysts collaboration, Greet will be guiding the co-creation of a citizen-science app that stimulates skills-sharing to meet diverse local needs, ultimately to promote active ageing and health equity more broadly.

Achievements include

  • Leads Gray, Ghent’s research group for ageing young
  • Active in many other research groups, including Digital Innovation for Man and Society, and the Expert Centre for Psychological Growth
  • Chair of Health Cascade, learning network and social enterprise
  • Fellow of the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity
  • Former president of the International Society of Behavioural Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBPNA)

In my own words…

We need a big cultural shift on ageing: from the focus being on ‘end of life’ to ‘making most of life’. And we need a better view of what’s needed through data to help people reach their physical guidelines.

How can data science support our needs? How can we harness citizen science for healthier outcomes?
