Sebastien Chastin
Seb’s ‘day job’ is a highly cited professor of health and life science, but in reality he’s a driving force of numerous civil society collaborations that are turning evidence into positive action. The Datavysts being one of them.
Right now, Seb’s big focus of interest is data science for the common good, hence being one of the key initiators of this Marie Skłodowska-Curie doctoral network. Much of his work is centred around behaviour change and he’s a fervent advocate of co-creation and collective intelligence — as a means of developing solutions to our most pressing human problems.
Achievements include
- Co-creator of Health Cascade, learning network and social enterprise
- Also professor at Ghent University’s Department of Movement and Sports Sciences
- President, International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBPNA)
- Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society
- Author: World Health Organization guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behaviour (2020)
- Leads AlphaBeT, a project to develop a taxonomy for 24-hour movement behaviours
- Leads OpenCODA, an open science project for the development of compositional analysis techniques
In my own words…
The Datavysts network will put AI and data to the service of collective intelligence for the common good and planetary health — by intersecting the concepts of commons, collective intelligence, and planetary health.
The legacy I want Datavysts to leave is a new generation of leaders who can define and demonstrate how we develop and use new technology in a wiser way.
