Weronika Szpak

TU Dortmund University
Novel participation opportunities and social inclusion enabled through social innovation, data science and artificial intelligence in the welfare sector

A social sciences enthusiast with a flair for interdisciplinarity, Weronika holds a Master’s in Economic Data Analytics from Poznań University of Economics and Business, alongside dual Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Economics. Weronika's research blends mixed methods and multiple perspectives — driven by a lifelong curiosity about the natural and social forces shaping our world.

Weronika's recent work includes a research fellowship exploring the entrepreneurial orientation of NGOs in Poland during the COVID-19 pandemic, sparking a lasting interest in the third sector, social innovation, and civil society.

Outside academia, Weronika is a culture lover, avid reader, and concert-goer. She hikes with her partner and their whippet, Mrówka (“Ant”), enjoys cooking, and plays badminton. Weronika is also a proud Iga Świątek superfan.

Achievements

  • Funded as part of a National Science Centre in Poland grant to research ‘Entrepreneurial orientation of Polish and Czech NGOs during a pandemic’
  • Published an article about precarious employment in the third sector during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Perfected the recipe for her signature breakfast – ciabatta with grilled peaches, halloumi cheese and special sauce
  • Hiked through Góry Izerskie with her partner and their dog

In my own words…

Data means nothing without the people behind it. I want to blend academic research with human stories to empower welfare organisations and amplify marginalised voices.
